​On the occasion of 'World Heart Day', we are organizing the fundraising event: Don't stop the beat on Sunday the 17th of September 2023. With this event, we aim to raise extra awareness of heart disease and raise funds for our cardiogenomics research.
 
During the event, you can enjoy live music, including vocals by the talented PhD student and opera singer Marc Terrones!
Moreover, you will have the opportunity to learn more about CPR, heart disease, patient experiences and our research.

21st Belgian Society of Human Genetics meeting

Today, the 21st BESHG meeting took place at the Crown Plaza hotel in Brussels. For many, it was the first physical meeting in a long time and a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues in the field of genetics. With 5 posters and 2 oral presentations of Maaike and Ilse, our lab was well represented.

Bart Loeys receives Francqui-Collen award

Yesterday, Bart Loeys was invited to the "Paleis der Academiën" in Brussels to receive the Francqui-Collen award from King Filip. The national television even came to film in our lab. Watch the news report and interview with Bart below.

On Wednesday 16/12/2020 Bart will receive the Francqui-Collen award (also called the Belgian Nobel prize) from the hands of King Filip himself. Bart is awarded for his outstanding clinical research revealing the genetic causes of thoracic aortic aneurysm. ​We are very proud of our PI! Congratulations Bart!

With this award, she will continue her excellent research into the genetics of thoracic aortic aneurysm, which she explains in following movie (Dutch).

From April 27 till April 30, the fourth ESHG Cardiogenetics course, organized by Bart Loeys and Bill Newman, took place in Antwerp, Belgium. It was an interactive course covering multiple clinical and molecular aspects of cardiogenetic disorders.

BeSHG annual meeting

On Friday 15th of March, the 19th meeting of the Belgian Society for Human Genetics took place in Liège. This years team was "Precision medicine: application of genetics in prevention and treatment." With 5 posters and 1 oral presentation, the Loeys lab was well represented on the meeting. Ewa Sieliwonczyk got awarded with the prize for best oral presentation. Congratulations Ewa!

ESHG Cardiogenetics course Antwerp

The fourth cardiogenetics training course supported by the European Society of Human Genetics will take place in Antwerp, Belgium (course organizers: Prof Bart Loeys, Clinical Genetics, University of Antwerp; Prof Bill Newman, Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine) from Saturday April 27th to Tuesday April 30th 2019.
The course is mainly intended for young trainees in genetics and cardiology and consists of lectures, interactive and case-based teaching covering clinical and molecular aspects of cardiogenetic disorders.
